Prithvi Shaw showcased his batting prowess with a remarkable century in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match against Chattisgarh in Raipur. Playing for Mumbai, the talented youngster crafted a superb innings of 159 runs from 185 deliveries, comprising 18 boundaries and three sixes, contributing significantly to his team’s imposing first-innings total.

In just his second game since returning from injury, Prithvi Shaw demonstrated his resilience and skill with the bat. Following a knee injury sustained during his County stint with Northamptonshire last year, Shaw made a promising start against Bengal, scoring 35 runs. However, he was unable to capitalize on this start. Nonetheless, Shaw swiftly made his mark in the current match against Chattisgarh.

I am happy that I am back playing cricket- Prithvi Shaw

Returning to the limelight, Prithvi Shaw faced inquiries from the media regarding his future aspirations. Once hailed as a potential star in Indian cricket, Shaw emphasized that his primary objective at present is to contribute to Mumbai’s quest for victory in the Ranji Trophy.

“I’m not thinking too far off and want to stay in the present. There is no expectation, I’m happy that I’m back playing cricket. I have just come back after injury and just want to give my best. My aim is to win the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai and I’m trying to achieve that by contributing as much as I can going ahead,”

Having been sidelined for much of the domestic season due to injury, including missing out on the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Shaw is now determined to sustain his excellent form as he gears up for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The 24-year-old will represent the Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2024 after the franchise retained him despite a poor season last year. He scored just 106 runs in eight games at a dismal average of 13.25.

“The feeling was a bit ajeeb “- Prithvi Shaw

When asked about his emotions upon picking up the bat for the first time after recovering from injury, Prithvi Shaw responded,

“I wasn’t nervous but the feeling was a bit ajeeb (strange) when I resumed my batting. However, I did a match simulation and was motivating myself that everything will be fine. My body language was fine,”

Prithvi Shaw’s last appearance for India was in 2021 during a T20I match against Sri Lanka in Colombo. To date, he has played five Tests, six ODIs, and one T20I for the national team.
