After the eight game of 2024 T20 world cup edition, Group C associate featuring Papua New Guinea will take on Uganda on 6th June 5 am IST. Both teams faced defeat in their opening encounter. In the second game of the tournament two times T20 world cup champions defeated Papua New Guinea by a small margin. Batting first PNG set a small target of 137 with Sese Bau scoring brilliant 50 and Kiplin Doriga adding quick 27 runs on the board though other batters struggle. Despite putting a low score PNG bowlers made it difficult for the Caribbean batsman to score throughout the game, in the end luck favoured West Indies defeating pacific nation by the end of 19th over with 5 wickets still in hand.

PNG captain Assad Vala in post match presentation said that he is proud of his team’s efforts but has a few regrets: “It was a competitive score but we believe we missed a trick towards the end. Another 10 to 15 runs would have been nice. We’re really happy with the way we fought. We got wickets in key moments, but we couldn’t nail it at the end. I’m really pleased with the effort from the boys.

On the other hand, Uganda faced a humiliated defeat in their first game against rising Afghanistan. Batting first Afghanistan put a huge total of 183 for 5 wickets on a board. Both opener batsman  R. Gurbaz and I. Zadran  scored brilliant 76 and 70 runs respectively. In reply Uganda were all out for just 58 in 9 overs. Fazalhaq Farooqi took 5 wickets conceding just 9 runs in 4 overs, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan both took 2 wickets each.

Both teams are eagerly eying their first victory of the campaign after faltering in their initial match. Each squad is meticulously preparing aiming to rectify their previous mistakes and will give their 100 percent.

PITCH REPORT:

Inclement weather has been part of this tournament, and one can expect more of the same in Guyana when the two teams meet to play the 11th game of the campaign. Pace bowlers will be the constant threat as the overhead conditions could aid a lot of seam and swing. Win the toss and bowling first would be the preferred option, as chasing here is one of the most viable options.
