Pat Cummins led Sunrisers Hyderabad secured a comfortable six-wicket victory over the Chennai Super Kings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday. Choosing to field first after winning the toss, SRH restricted CSK to 165/5 in their 20 overs. SRH then chased down the target with ease, with 11 deliveries remaining, showcasing a strong performance with both bat and ball.

In the post-match presentation, the Australian skipper commented on the pitch’s sluggish characteristics and elaborated on their strategic approach to the game, particularly in terms of bowling.

It was a different soil. It slowed up a little bit as the game went on,” Cummins said.

During their initial bowling innings, SRH leaned heavily on their pace attack, with spinners playing a less prominent role in the latter part of their bowling. Cummins elaborated on this strategy shift, mentioning that CSK’s Shivam Dube, who aggressively scored 45 runs off just 24 balls, was particularly dominant against the spinners. This prompted him to adjust the team’s approach.

Shivam was hitting it well against the spin. Thought we’ll take a chance with off-cutters,” the Australian quick said.

Pat Cummins expressed his satisfaction with the victory and emphasized that accumulating points on the leaderboard was their top priority.

“The first thing is always to get the points,” the SRH skipper stated.

“Wouldn’t want to be bowling to Abhishek and Head at the top”- Pat Cummins

SRH’s chase kicked off with a bang, primarily due to Abhishek Sharma’s explosive knock of 37 runs from just 12 deliveries, effectively unsettling the Chennai bowlers. Travis Head, the Australian left-hander, complemented this onslaught well with a solid 31. Cummins praised his opening batsmen for their aggressive approach and made a lighthearted remark about not wanting to face such freely scoring batsmen himself.

Wouldn’t want to be bowling to Abhishek and Trav Head at the top,” the 30-year-old seamer said.

The audience in Hyderabad, numbering close to 36,000, was dotted with splashes of yellow, showing support for the former Indian and CSK captain, MS Dhoni. Cummins commented on the noticeable increase in noise levels as the celebrated World Cup winner made his way to the crease to bat the final deliveries of the innings.

The crowd was crazy tonight. When MS walked out, it was as loud as I’ve ever heard,” Pat Cummins added.
