The Netherlands faced New Zealand in the sixth match of the ICC World Cup 2023. The Netherlands remained 99 runs away from the target, and their skipper Scott Edwards feels that while chasing bit totals like today, we need big runs; 40s or 50s are not going to win us the match. Their skipper, Scott Edwards, expressed the lack of big scores from their batters as the main reason.

In the match, the chasing team bowled out 223 while chasing a big total of 323. No batsman could stand tall from the chasing side, and they lost the match with a huge margin of 99 runs.

At Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, New Zealand batted first and got a solid start from both openers. The centurion from the last match, Devon Conway, could not raise his standard with a bat and went early. Young Rachin Ravindra followed his ton with a brilliant half century. Daryl Mitchell helped with his 48, Latham’s half century, and a small hand from Santner took New Zealand to a big total of 322.

While chasing a really big target, the chasing team lost early wickets; only Colin Ackermann passed the half-century mark. Their star batter, Bas de Leede, got out very soon; no other batter could cross the half-century mark, which resulted losing the match by 99 runs. Mitchell Santner just went through their batting line-up with his five wickets. He was also picked as player of the match for his all-round performance.

We have to play our best cricket and try to win- Scott Edwards

During the post match presentation, Scott Edwards said that they won’t be able to chase 321 with 40s, 50s and 60s and emphasized on the fact that they need to put on bigger partnerships and big scores on the board.

“You are not going to chase down 321 with 40s, 50s, and 60s. We will speak about that with the boys. In the next few games, we have to put on bigger partnerships and bigger scores. For us, it’s another game; we have to play our best cricket and try to win,” said Scott Edwards.

“We were pretty good in the first 40 overs. They got away from us in the last 3 overs, which pushed the score a little bit further than we were hoping. If we could hold them to the 280–300 mark, the wicket gets a little better at night,” he said.
