Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah has highlighted the concerns among the team’s pace bowlers regarding inconsistent selection policies. Naseem Shah, who missed the ODI World Cup in India due to a shoulder injury sustained during the Asia Cup, has recently returned to action in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after recovering from his injury.

The bowlers don’t rest- Naseem Shah unhappy with the workload management concept

Speaking to CricWick, Naseem acknowledged that fast bowlers in the team are hesitant to request rest for workload management out of fear of being left out of the side.

“Unfortunately, it is a bit different in Pakistan. Whenever a player comes from outside, is not a part of the playing eleven, and performs well in a match, even our main bowlers get worried thinking whether they will be able to play to the next game or now. There’s a fear and because of that, the bowlers don’t rest. When you rest, sometimes you end up resting in peace,” said Naseem Shah.

Pakistan’s performance has noticeably faltered in the absence of Naseem Shah, as evidenced by their failure to reach the Asia Cup final and the World Cup semi-final. Furthermore, they endured a humiliating 0-3 series whitewash in Australia post-World Cup, followed by a disappointing 1-4 loss in the T20Is in New Zealand.

Despite his brief career, Naseem has already left a mark, claiming an impressive tally of 98 wickets across formats in just 50 matches. As the T20 World Cup looms just three months away, Naseem Shah’s return  significantly bolster the team’s chances on the global stage.

Naseem Shah’s return from Injury

Naseem Shah has made a strong comeback from injury in the ongoing 2024 PSL season, representing Islamabad United. Despite initial concerns, the right-arm pacer has shown no signs of discomfort and has been performing well. In six games, he has taken eight wickets at an average of 27 and an economy rate of 7.66.

Naseem’s performances have been crucial for Islamabad United, who currently sit third in the points table with three league-stage games remaining. Naseem had a slow start with a 1/36 spell in his first game back, but he quickly found his form, taking two wickets in each of his next two matches.

In Islamabad United’s recent victory against Peshawar Zalmi, Naseem Shah played a crucial role, taking 1 wicket for 26 runs, which included the important dismissal of Saim Ayub. This performance contributed significantly to their 29-run win. Islamabad United’s next match against Lahore Qalandars on March 6 is crucial, as they aim to secure a spot in the playoffs. The top four teams will qualify for the playoffs after each team completes their quota of ten games, starting on March 14.
