Arshdeep Singh will take a lot of confidence from South African ODI Series- Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir was asked for his views regarding the Arshdeep’s spell in the series decider match against South Africa, while reviewing the game on Star Sports, to which he said:

“These are good signs for Indian cricket when young fast bowlers perform like this when there wasn’t that much help for fast bowling. What can be better than picking up 10 wickets in the series?”

“We always say that a left-arm seamer should be in the squad, that a left-arm seamer gives a different dimension. The sort of series Arshdeep has had, I believe he will take a lot of confidence from this,” the former Indian Opener added.

Arshdeep Singh was in the talk because of his performance in the recent T20I series against South Africa and hadn’t picked up a wicket in the three ODIs he had played before the South Africa series.

After recording his first-ever five-wicket haul (5/37) in the opening game and taking a four-wicket haul (4/30) in the crucial last game, he was named Player of the Series in recognition of his pivotal roles in both Indian victories.

Reeza Hendricks was the wicket of the game- Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir expressed his admiration to Arshdeep Singh for taking the wicket of Reeza Hendricks. He added that there wasn’t much swing available from the pitch, so Arshdeep used the scrambled seam to remove Reeza Hendricks.

“For me, Reeza Hendricks was the wicket of the game because of the way the ball went away after pitching and the way he dismissed him. Arshdeep normally tries to swing the ball and likes to bring it in but here because there wasn’t much swing available, he used the scrambled seam,” Gautam Gambhir explained.

Tony de Zorzi’s wicket was the turning point of the match- Gautam Gambhir

The cricketer-turned-commentator highlighted Tony de Zorzi’s dismissal by the left-arm seamer as the game’s key moment. He said the way Tony de Zorzi was batting , his wicket was the turning point of the match.

In the second ODI, De Zorzi smashed an unbeaten century , and he scored a 87-ball 81 on Thursday. After the first appeal was denied by the on-field umpire, he was declared leg-before-wicket on review.

“Considering the way (Tony de) Zorzi was batting, it was the turning point of the match. He got a little reverse there. So overall Arshdeep performed exceptionally well, and today because there wasn’t too much help for the fast bowlers,” Gautam Gambhir stated.

Now, the two teams will meet at SuperSport Park cricket stadium, Centurion for the first and Boxing Day test match for the two match test series.
