James Anderson, the seasoned English fast bowler, continues to spearhead his team’s bowling unit in the ongoing third Test against India at Rajkot, displaying his enduring prowess at the age of 41.

Amid ongoing discussions about his retirement from cricket, James Anderson, the legendary pacer, has remained focused on his game, prioritizing a strong finish to his illustrious career. While he hasn’t set a definitive timeline for his retirement, he aims to conclude his journey in the sport with distinction.

James Anderson’s unique stance on retirement

James Anderson, speaking to the Telegraph via TalkSPORT, shared insights into his retirement plans. He said,

“I would like to be able to go out on a nice note. I don’t want to drag it out and people are thinking: ‘Can you just do one.’ Morgs [Eoin Morgan] last year woke up and just knew it was time to call it a day. I am just hoping that is the case,”

James Anderson, with his early scalp of Kuldeep Yadav on Day 2, has notched his 696th Test wicket, trailing only behind the iconic Shane Warne (708) and Muttiah Muralitharan (800) in the annals of Test cricket’s highest wicket-takers.

I feel privileged to have got in a position where I can make a decision- James Anderson

James Anderson’s commitment to fitness has set a high standard for himself, and he is thankful to still be in a position where he can choose when to retire from the game. Anderson shared his thoughts regarding this,

“I feel privileged to have got in a position where I can make a decision because, as a bowler, it is usually taken out of your hands with injury or selection. It will be nice to go out on my own terms, but when that will be, you just have to wait and see,”

England made an ideal start to Day 2 by dismissing both overnight batsmen, Ravindra Jadeja (112) and Kuldeep Yadav (4). India will now rely on Dhruv Jurel and Ravichandran Ashwin to form a strong partnership and guide them past the 400-run mark.
