Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan lauded Shivam Dube, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman, for his performance against the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their current match at the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). Dube has been exceptional with the bat this season, scoring 34*, 51, 18, and 45 in CSK’s four matches so far. His contribution was crucial to CSK’s title victory in IPL 2023, especially his unbeaten 21-ball 32 in the final against Gujarat Titans (GT).

Selectors should keep a close eye on him- Irfan Pathan

In the 18th match of IPL 2024, SRH and CSK clashed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. CSK faced an early setback as Rachin Ravindra was dismissed during the powerplay after they were asked to bat first. After skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad’s dismissal in the eighth over, Shivam Dube was promoted up the batting order, ahead of Moeen Ali and Daryl Mitchell.

The 30-year-old immediately made an impact, scoring a four and a six off Shahbaz Ahmed’s bowling on just his third and fourth deliveries. Dube continued to find the gaps consistently, hitting boundaries and sixes to keep CSK’s scoreboard moving. His skill in scoring off SRH’s spinners impressed Irfan Pathan, who praised him on X (formerly Twitter).

Right now Shivam Dube is way ahead of anyone in Indian cricket as far as spin-hitting ability is concerned! Indian selectors should keep a close eye on him for the World Cup,” Pathan wrote.

With the 2024 T20 World Cup approaching, many players are using the ongoing IPL to showcase their skills and secure a spot in their national teams for the global event.

Shivam Dube Rescues CSK with Solid Innings Against SRH

As previously mentioned, CSK faced a setback when opener Rachin Ravindra was dismissed early in the fourth over. However, a solid partnership between Gaikwad and Ajinkya Rahane ensured that CSK navigated through the powerplay without further losses. Dube and Rahane combined forces, forging a 65-run partnership for the third wicket. While Rahane played a supporting role, Dube took charge, scoring 45 runs off 24 balls, playing a pivotal role in propelling CSK’s innings.

After Dube’s dismissal, CSK’s momentum slowed, but Ravindra Jadeja’s quickfire 31* off 23 balls in the death overs ensured that CSK reached a competitive total of 165/5 at the end of their 20 overs.
