Yash Dayal opened up on getting smashed for five sixes in IPL 2023 after RCB took a dig at Murali Kartik’s “trash” remark on air. On the night, former India cricketer Murali Kartik made a controversial remark on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fast bowler Yash Dayal, calling him “trash”, which created quite an outrage on social media with fans lambasting the ex-cricketer, the 26-year-old played a crucial role in helping RCB beat Punjab Kings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday and secure their first victory in IPL 2024.

Yash Dayal put on a stellar show on RCB’s return to their home ground. He conceded just 10 runs in his first three overs, all in the powerplay, before returning for an over in the death, where he dismissed Sam Curran with a bouncer. It was during his spell with the new ball when Kartik, on commentary, said: “Someone’s trash is someone’s treasure.” Following RCB’s four-wicket win, the franchise hit back at Kartik’s on-air remark as they posted a picture of Dayal and captioned it: “He’s treasure. Period.”

Yash Dayal’s debut game at Chinnaswamy for RCB

The left-arm seamer Yash Dayal made his IPL debut for Gujarat Titans in the 2022 edition of the tournament. He played 9 matches for the franchise that season and accumulated 11 wickets at an average of 26.91. He was hailed for bowling well in the death overs.

However, in the following season, Dayal was left heart-broken after he conceded 5 sixes in the final five balls off Rinku Singh to hand Kolkata Knight Riders a historic win. Yash Dayal lost around 6-7 kilos after that eventful night and it took a while for him to make a comeback on the field.

Ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, Gujarat Titans opted to release him and the pacer will don the jersey of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. Yash Dayal, who was purchased by RCB for 5 crores in the mini auction, delivered a standout performance in yesterday’s match, playing a crucial role in the team’s victory. He displayed exceptional bowling skills, conceding just 23 runs in his spell of 4 overs and taking a wicket.

Following the mini auction in December 2023, Royal Challengers Bengaluru faced criticism for including Yash Dayal in their team. However, Dayal answered all critics with his excellent bowling performance yesterday. Yash Dayal faced a tough outing last season while representing the Gujarat Titans. In a match against the Kolkata Knight Riders, KKR’s finisher Rinku Singh hit five sixes against Yash Dayal in the decisive final over and Gujarat lost the game.

After the RCB versus PBKS game, Yash Dayal talked about his comeback journey and fulfilling his dream of playing for a top team like Bengaluru. After the game, fellow pacer Mohammed Siraj interviewed Dayal, who opened up about his struggles following that match and how he managed to overcome them.

“To be honest, the problem began when the match was over and I left the ground. I was told not to go on social media, but I ended up checking it. Then I talked to my family. I saw what people think about what background I come from and playing cricket at this level,” Yash Dayal told Mohammed Siraj in a post-match interaction.

“I fell ill after 2-3 days of that incident , then I recovered from it. It is not like I am the first person to go through all of this, and I will not be the last as well. So, I focused on the process, tried to play as many matches as possible, and get into a zone where I can tackle it such situations,” he added

Yash Dayal  has got the new ball to swing both ways, which is a valuable asset for any side. The left-arm pacer had a decent spell for RCB in their season-opening loss to CSK, with figures of 1-28 off three overs, accounting for Ruturaj Gaikwad’s crucial wicket.

Yash Dayal the 26-year-old made his IPL debut in 2022  edition. Before that he was just an ardent fan much like the majority of people in India During the interaction he admitted that he had a special place for two popular franchises one is Chennai Super Kings and the other being his current playing franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

“I had seen and heard quite a lot about RCB’s fan following. Right from my childhood, whenever I have watched the IPL, I have followed two teams, one is CSK and the other one is RCB. I did not know that I will get the chance to play for RCB, so now to feel the atmosphere firsthand and playing with the squad, it is like a dream,” Dayal said.

Dayal will be next seen in action during RCB’s contest against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday, March 29.
