Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper and Indian team batter Shreyas Iyer had a wonderful season as a skipper who took the team to the final of IPL 2024 and let’s hope that he wins the title for the third time. The last few months were very tough for Shreyas Iyer had a rough patch in his career. He had a great World Cup scored 2 centuries but remained runners-up in the final.
Shreyas Iyer recalls his rough patch
Batter Shreyas Iyer recalls his tough phase when he faced too much negativity and felt nothing to do, remained lonely and no one was there to support him. Post-World Cup he didn’t have a great day with the bat in the South Africa and England series stream of low scores and getting dropped from the team all such incidents happened in a row. Mostly, he used to be out of the team due to his injury and less fitness so his place was also not confirmed. Recently, he also lost the annual contract of BCCI which made him more depressed. Iyer said:
“I was struggling after the World Cup in the longer format. When I raised my concern, no one was agreeing to it. But at the same time, the competition is with me,”
“When IPL was approaching, all I wanted was to see to it that I put in my best foot forward and whatever planning and strategizing we did before it, if we could execute it to the best of our ability, we would have been a great spot and that’s where we are now,”
Every sportsperson who faces such a phase feels like they should be motivated and try to relax and not think too much about those incidents and near and dear ones should support them and take care of them as they feel drowsy and depressed. A player like Shreyas Iyer who had an awesome World Cup suddenly goes through a tough phase it’s nothing new Virat Kohli had a tough phase when he was not scoring runs fans backlash him to quit cricket and retirement but after a mental break he made a roaring comeback and rest is history.
