Wasim Akram says he is lucky enough to have his career ended before the t20 era came in. The sultan of swing said this after witnessing some very high-scoring matches in the current season of the Indian Premier League. Wasim Akram is said to be the Sultan Of Swing for his incredible ability to swing the ball both ways in his playing days which made him very lethal to face.
The Indian Premier League this season has seen some very high-scoring matches, scores in excess of 250 have been scored a few times and 200 looks like a par score this season as all teams are easily getting close to it with a number of overs remaining. Batsmen have started playing aggressive cricket right from ball one, which has troubled the fielding team’s captain and the bowler.
Sunrisers Hyderabad has been the pick of the teams when it comes to high-scoring matches this season, crossing the 250 runs mark thrice this season against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore almost chased the score down scoring 246 and 262 respectively. Kolkata Knight Riders have scored over 250 this season against Delhi Capitals.
Wasim Akram says bowlers are getting paid to get thrashed by the batsmen
Speaking on a live chat show Wasim Akram said :
“Thank God, I am not playing cricket in this era. I mean they are scoring 270 in 20 overs. It’s like 450 or 500 in a 50-over game. If it happened once, it was okay, but this has happened three-four times, which shows how strong the batting is,”
“It is illegal to score 100 runs in 5 overs. How can this happen? Even if you bowl full-tosses, it is tough to do it. For bowlers, it has become like take money and get destroyed here. I feel for the bowlers in this format,” he added.
Wasim Akram also said that the small boundary sizes might have become shorter, but most grounds are very much same when it comes to boundary sizes. He gave credit to the modern day batsmen for their incredible power hitting prowess and their ability to have a clear mindset and start hitting from ball one.

During the conversation he was asked that if any team could match the power hitting of Sunrisers Hyderabad, he said that none of the franchises have that firepower but maybe an international side can match it.
“I don’t think so (if any franchise can have such a destructive batting lineup like SRH). Maybe, at the international level, you may get one. However, in leagues, it is quite tough,” Akram responded.
Wasim Akram also opened up about Klassen being one of his favourite batsmen. He aslo pointed the role of Pat Cummins the captain in order to give the free hand to his batsmen to go and hit from ball one. Wasim Akram felt that Pat Cummins has bought calmness in the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp which was missing from years.
He said :
“Heinrich Klaasen is one of my favorite players in the world if you talk about white-ball cricket. His ability to hit sixes is incredible. Abdul Samad is doing a good job as a finisher. He is playing his role well. Also, Pat Cummins’ presence as a captain has brought some calmness in the SRH dressing room,” Wasim Akram concluded.
Wasim Akram also joked about supporting Sunrisers Hyderabad because his wife is from Australia and the franchise is also led by an Australian. People from all over the world seem to enjoy the Indian Premier League and are vocal about their favourite player and franchise in the league.
