Speaking about Iyer’s record as India A captain, Prasad said that it was good. The right-hander was unable to participate in the opening leg of the 2021 Indian Premier League and ultimately lost his captaincy to Rishabh Pant for the entire season.
Despite scoring 257 runs in 10 games, the gifted right-hander has not been at his very best with the bat in the IPL 2024. He has, however, led superbly. MSK Prasad backs Shreyas Iyer to lead India in the near future
In an interview, former chief selector MSK Prasad spoke up for Shreyas Iyer, saying that the way the captain has guided the team has always been impressive to watch. He mentioned that India A has played ten matches and won eight of them and that Shreyas can captain the team and lead the team because he has the experience to do so. Therefore, he needs to be prepared for that specific position.
“If you go back to the stats, in the last two years, when we were at the helm, Shreyas Iyer led the side (India A). I think out of the 10 series that India A played, we won 8. In the majority of those series, Shreyas led the side. He has been in and around as captain. He has been groomed for that particular slot,” said MSK Prasad.
