Faf du Plessis makes brutally honest admission on RCB’s bowling attack: ‘Don’t have weapons, it comes down to batting’ is what Faf Du Plessis said dejected after the loss to Mumbai Indians making them chase 196 in just 15.3 overs.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Faf du Plessis didn’t shy away from a rather straightforward assessment of his team’s recent struggles, acknowledging a deficiency in bowling firepower after RCB’s loss to Mumbai Indians on Thursday. This was RCB’s fifth defeat in six matches in the IPL 2024, and  Faf du Plessis highlighted key areas of concern, particularly the team’s inability to create early breakthroughs in the powerplay overs.

RCB’s pathetic bowling costs them yet another match in IPL.

All of RCB’s bowlers in the game against MI conceded at over 10 runs/over, as MI chased down a competitive 197-run target with 27 balls to spare while losing only three wickets.

RCB have struggled to defend totals in this season after having failed to pick a well-rounded bowling attack at the auction. RCB did not have an established spinner as they picked the likes of Karn Sharma and Mayank Dagar. It was a harsh reality check for RCB at the Wankhede as it looked like a total of even 250 would not have been safe.

Not even one of the RCB bowlers managed to escape the carnage as all 6 bowlers used by captain Faf du Plessis conceded in excess of 10 runs per over. Pace spearhead Mohammed Siraj leaked 37 runs in 3 overs in a disappointing show on Thursday.

Skipper Faf Du Plessis openly admitted that his bowling line is pathetic in this IPL and is unable to chase any type of total.

RCB captain Faf du Plessis admitted that the former finalists don’t have the bowling attack to challenge opposition sides after MI handed them a 7-wicket hammering in an IPL 2024 match at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. After 196 did not prove enough for RCB, captain Du Plessis said that their batters need to consistently look for totals in excess of 200 if they are to harbor hopes of winning games and making a comeback in the remainder of the season.

RCB were handed their 5th loss in 6 matches in IPL 2024 and the hammering at the Wankhede would have disheartened even the most optimistic of RCB fans. The fifties from Faf du Plessis, Rajat Patidar, and Dinesh Karthik helped the visiting side post 196 on the board despite failures from Glenn Maxwell and Virat Kohli. However, the target was chased down by MI in just 15.3 overs as they made a mockery of the chase at the Wankhede Stadium. Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya tore into the RCB bowlers.

“I feel like from a batting perspective, we have to push for that 200. We don’t have as many weapons in our bowling. So it comes down to the batting. From a bowling perspective, we have lacked penetration. We have to get them two or three down in the powerplay. Always feels like we are on the back foot after the first four overs,” Faf Du Plessis said after the match.

Du Plessis also expressed disappointment with the batting effort from his side, noting that RCB fell short of a competitive total due to challenging conditions in the second innings.

“We needed 215-220. 190 wasn’t enough. It is a big thing at some venues. When the dew settles in, it was very tough,” du Plessis commented, highlighting the significant role of environmental factors in match outcomes. RCB nearly now fears going out of IPL early if any significant doesnt happens drastically well in bowling department at the earliest.
