Rinku Singh is a must on the flight to the World Cup says former Indian World Cup winner.
Though the players who would win tickets to the West Indies and the US are still up for debate, India’s T20 World Cup roster has not yet been revealed. While previous cricketers have begun to speculate about potential lineups and jump on the bandwagon, 1983 World Cup winner and former selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth feels that Rinku Singh must be a lock for a spot in the team of 15 for the main event.
With four straight sixes in the season-ending match against Gujarat Titans, the left-hand hitter stole the show and finished as KKR’s top scorer with 474 runs and four fifties. His career was accelerated by his captivating performance, which earned him an India T20I debut later in the year.
In 15 games, he scored 356 runs at a high strike rate of 176.23, and he was not out in seven of them. However, Rinku Singh has had few opportunities this IPL season as the KKR top order has scored the majority of the runs. In eight games, the left-hand hitter has amassed 112 runs at a strike percentage of 157.74.
Rinku Singh is a certain in the squad.
Kris Srikkanth while speaking in a show expressed he thoughts regarding Rinku Singh’s place in the World Cup Squad. He said :
“A classic example is Rinku Singh. Rinku Singh is a certainty in my 15. He hasn’t got that many opportunities to bat in the IPL but you see his international track record, it’s an amazing track record. Amazing track record in South Africa and with every opportunity he has got. So Rinku Singh has to be a certainty in the 15,” Srikkanth said.
“But if we go by recent form or opportunities, he hasn’t got enough opportunities. End of the day you’ve to forget who the player is and look at what is his track record. Is he a great player, is a deadly player, is he fit?
“So, Rinku Singh has to be a certainty, he has to get the Visa and he will fasten his seat belt to take the flight to the United States to play the game as one of the 15 members in the side,” he added.
Matthew Hayden credits the IPL
Former Australia opener Matthew Hayden, who was also present at the conversation, feels that the Indian Premier League has highlighted a lot of talent in India, which is now being considered for the Men’s T20 World Cup selection process.
“I tell you it’s a true credit to the IPL, that it gets so much headspace in terms of selection, for international cricket.
“It’s a testimony to how brilliant the competition is and it’s also a credit to the way the IPL has allowed its foreign players, to play and strengthen the tournament. I’m not sure there’s another across T20 cricket that’s equal. How good is it, because we have found Jaiswal and he’s just one of the many like Rinku who have been discovered by IPL cricket,” he added.
It will be interesting to see who are the players flying to the States to play in the World Cup.
