In a low-scoring IPL match in Dharamsala on Sunday, experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja showed both the bat and the ball, helping the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeat the Punjab Kings (PKBS) by a solid 28 runs. Despite the difficult conditions, Ravindra Jadeja‘s crucial 26-ball 43 enabled CSK to reach a competitive total of 167 for 9, after Sam Curran had asked them to bat first.

Chennai’s start to the first innings was not great because they lost wickets in the next session, which forced them to rely on their middle order to score runs. The three most important scores for Chennai to set a realistic target for PKBS Batsman are Ravindra Jadeja’s 43, Darl Mitchell’s 30, and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 32. However, Punjab’s Rahul Chahar and Harshal Patel each claimed three wickets.

While the batsmen will try their hardest to chase the target, PKBS is unable to do so and loses nine wickets. Punjab, on the other hand, failed to catch the target, apart from the strong start provided by Prabhsimran Singh (30 of 23) and Shashank (27 of 20). Once more, Ravindra Jadeja impressed by taking three wickets and conceding 20 runs at an economy rate of five per over.

My role as a batter is to build partnerships and then play the big shots towards the end- Ravindra Jadeja

After winning the Player of the Match award, Ravindra Jadeja stuck to his guns, stating that since the match was played during the day, we should anticipate a slow wicket at first. The power play looked good, but somewhere there was a lack of partnership. It is my responsibility to create strong partnerships so that we can score later.

“It was a day game, so the wicket was slow. As usual, it was expected because it was so hot” said Ravindra Jadeja.

“We had a good powerplay but did not get partnerships in the middle overs. I was trying to build a good partnership to then tee off at the end,” he further added

“My role as a batter is to build partnerships and then play the big shots towards the end,” he concluded
