IPL 2024: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) Spoil The Party Of Mumbai Indians (MI) And Almost Knock Them Out Of Play-Offs Race

Indian Premier League match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and  Mumbai Indians (MI) was held at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow. Lucknow thrashed Mumbai Indians on their home ground by 4 wickets and won the match. Currently, Lucknow Super Giants stands in third position with 12 points while Mumbai Indians are in 9th position with 6 points.

Lucknow won the toss and elected to bowl first. Openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan can’t give a solid start as Rohit Sharma lost his wicket very early. Wickets were going continuously and Mumbai found themselves in trouble losing 4 wickets in powerplay. So in the end Mumbai was able to register 144 runs on board just because of  Nehal Wadhera and Tim David. Every bowler took a wicket and Mohsin Khan took 2 wickets. Nehal was the highest run scorer and lone warrior who scored 46 runs in 41 balls smashing four fours and two sixes.

Lucknow chased the target and the hero of the match was Aussie star all-rounder Marcus Stoinis scored the highest 62 runs in 45 balls which helped Lucknow to win the match.

As Lucknow Super Giants won the toss and chose to bowl first which proved to be beneficial, Mumbai openers flopped again to give a solid start and Mohsin Khan dropped the first blood for Lucknow he took the wicket of Rohit Sharma who struggled against left-arm pacers. Tilak Varma who is in great form also lost his wicket by run out and Mumbai was shattered totally but icing on the cake was when skipper Hardik Pandya lost his wicket on the very first ball itself and Mumbai found themselves in trouble as powerplay was like a nightmare for them and Lucknow was charged up from powerplay itself.  Young speedster Mayank Yadav who was urged to make a comeback after an injury also performed well.

Nehal and Tim saved Mumbai Indians

Since Powerplay didn’t help Mumbai Indians to score many runs as they had lost their top order very early and now Ishan and Nehal were on the crease thought that they could save Mumbai’s batting and would register a solid score but Lucknow was not in the mood to spare Mumbai Indians Ishan lost his wicket and saga of trouble continues. Next was Tim David who is known for his pinch-hitting but since the pitch was very slow and pacers were bowling slower ones and cutters so batsmen were struggling to find a boundary. Both took time and judged the pitch and then after both of them started hitting boundaries it was too late still able to score 144 runs on board losing 7 wickets. Nehal scored 46 runs and Tim scored 35 runs which was a below-par score but still after a disastrous powerplay both of them kept hope alive in Mumbai fans that they could defend this total.

Marcus wrote the winning script

When Lucknow came to batting they also struggled a bit in the powerplay and they lost debutant Arshin Kulkarni in the first over itself. Marcus Stoinis who came to bat at No3 came as a nightmare and wrote the winning script for Lucknow he was able to hit boundaries easily compared to Mumbai batters.

The powerplay was quite good but after the powerplay skipper KL Rahul lost his wicket and Mumbai thought that they could make a comeback quite easily just after losing the wicket of Rahul Stoinis geared up and kept hitting boundaries which cost Mumbai badly. All were against the odds and Stoinis scored a half-century just as the match was coming to an end Afghan legend Mohammed Nabi took the wicket of Stoinis but it was too late. Since the match went on till the last over Lucknow won the match by 4 wickets. Stoinis was adjourned man of the match.
