According to Aakash Chopra, Abhishek Sharma‘s batting style is almost similar to Yuvraj Singh’s. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener smashed a half-century against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

LSG gave the target of 166 to their opposing team SRH after opting to bat first. The SRH opener Abhishek Sharma then smashed an undisputed 75* off 28 deliveries along with Travis Head who also scored a whopping 89* off 30 deliveries without having given a single wicket and still 62 balls left to spare. The ‘Player of the Match’ award was given to Travis Head for his unstoppable performance.

There is class in Abhishek Sharma’s batting- Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra, in his recently shared video of the SRH chase; claimed that Abhishek Sharma strikes the ball more cleanly compared to Head. He (Aakash) compared Sharma to his mentor Yuvraj Singh.

“Abhishek Sharma is a very good story. If I compare their (Abhishek and Head’s) hitting styles, Abhishek’s style seems cleaner to me. The backlift comes nicely, it reminds you slightly of Yuvraj Singh, and downswing is very good. You see class in his batting,” he mentioned.

The former Indian opener reckons that Abhishek’s strike rate was not so low compared to Travis Head’s despite his reliable shots.

“It seems like Head is taking people’s class as though he is just beating them up, and it seems like an extension of cricketing shots in his (Abhishek’s) case. He also hits sixes. He hit six sixes and eight fours, and scored 75 runs off 28 balls. If Travis Head had a strike rate of 296, he also had strike rate close to 270,” Chopra noted.

In comparison between Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, Head smashed eight sixes and many boundaries whereas Abhisekh only hit two maximums in his undisputed 75*.

Abhishek Sharma should be in the Indian team not too long from now- Aakash Chopra

According to Aakash Chopra, Abhishek Sharma shall be a part of the Indian squad very soon.

“I feel Abhishek Sharma should be in the Indian team not too long from now. His name should come in the Indian team. We cannot say that we don’t have strikers. We have many. You can see Abhishek Sharma. After that, Yashasvi Jaiswal hits at the top,” he stated.

The former opener reckons that there are lots of big-time hitters for the Indian Squad but only a few of them were able to make it to the list.

“Suryakumar Yadav, Shashank Singh, Ashutosh Sharma, Rahul Tewatia, Nitish Reddy, Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, Rishabh Pant, Riyan Parag, Sanju Samson, Prabhsimran Singh- all of them hit. There are plenty and I might have forgotten many names,” Chopra noticed.

“The list is long now. When you have so many hitters, no one should turn back and say that we don’t have players who can hit. If we choose to go in a different direction, it’s not the fault of Indian cricketers. The future is in front of you about how India will be batting going forward. It’s heartening to see the way they are batting,” added by former KKR player.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Shivam Dube, and Sanju Samson are part of India’s main team in 2024, whereas Rinku Singh is in reserve.
