Rajasthan Royals (RR) against all the odds defeated the mighty Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 20 runs. RR won the match even in the presence of the destructive left handed batter Nicholas Pooran. Sandeep Sharma foxed Pooran by bowling off-cutters and variations as his knock of 64 runs in 41 balls wasn’t enough to take LSG over the finish line. Sandeep Sharma took 1 wicket in his 3 over spell and gave away 22 runs.
Sandeep Sharma was introduced into the bowling attack in the 15th over. In his 2nd over, he got the key wicket of LSG skipper KL Rahul which changed the course of the match as there was immense pressure on Nicholas Pooran. LSG made a mistake by playing out the veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin as a result, LSG required 38 runs to win from last 2 overs which was a tough task.
It won’t be wrong to say that the captaincy of Sanju Samson was top notch as the bowlers bowled to a particular gameplan. Samson’s decision to bowl out Trent Boult early could have backfired but his faith in Sandeep Sharma did wonders for the team. We should not forget that the opening duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler were dismissed cheaply and even despite that they put on 193 runs on the board.

“I think I should give the trophy to Sandeep Sharma. I wouldn’t have been standing here if not for him. I thought of calling him, but then thought it would be a bit too much. I heard Ash bhai say it’s not just about skill but character in pressure moments. He has that in his eyes, and in his body language that you can trust that guy,” said Sanju Samson.
