Robin Uthappa (former Indian batter) wholeheartedly backed Chennai Super King veteran batter-wicketkeeper MS Dhoni to come back with his full potential in the IPL 2025 edition. In yesterday’s match, it was very crucial for both teams because one team would have qualified for the playoffs. And it was the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) who won by 27 runs to get themselves qualified for the playoffs, and CSK got eliminated from the qualifying round.

MS Dhoni‘s stats are certainly impressive, especially considering he was battling through a knee injury. A batting average of 53.66 and a strike rate of 220.54 in 14 outings highlight his exceptional ball-striking ability and his value to the CSK side.

MS Dhoni will comeback roaring for sure- Robin Uthappa

Robin Uthappa remarked on JioCinema about Dhoni’s future following their elimination from the playoffs:

“I don’t think we have seen the last of MS. He is not someone who takes these things lightly. He will come back roaring for sure. Even with the narrative, I have seen him bat only in the last 4 or 5 overs, there is a reason for it. He had a calf injury which they initially thought perhaps was a niggle, but it was a little more grave than that. Because of that, he had to manage himself and often as he does, in international cricket and for CSK, he figured out a way to be useful and contribute to CSK,”

Dhoni took the crease in the final over. His valiant effort of 25 runs off just 13 deliveries would have surely given CSK fans hope, especially with the team needing 11 runs off 5 balls to qualify for the playoffs. But his hard work didn’t pay off as Dhoni was taken out by Yash Dayal’s slow delivery.

MSD can roll out again for at least 1 or 2 more years – Shane Watson

Shane Watson went on to agree with Uthappa and urged Dhoni to keep playing for two or more years.

The 42-year-old veteran wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni ended his reign and handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad after having registered 5 championship titles in the IPL history.

“He batted beautifully again. There is no doubt that he can fulfil a very important role for CSK, even if it’s coming in and facing 13-15 balls each game and doing this. He played incredibly well. Fingers crossed, MSD can roll out again for at least one or two more years, fulfilling this role which is a little less demanding physically on him anyway,” Watson stated.

The Chennai-based franchise won 7 games out of their 14 fixtures and got eliminated from the playoffs for the 3rd time.
