Ravichandran Ashwin & Nathan Lyon, the two spin bowling legends were seen in a banter recently where Lyon was quoted saying that both the spinners have couple of years left in them. If that is true, then we might witness a cracker of contest between India & Australia. Ravichandran Ashwin will be a key player if he decides to play against the mighty Aussies.
According to sources with knowledge, it is strongly believed that Ravichandran Ashwin will bid adieu to the sport after T20 WC 2024 as he has been playing non-stop cricket for India across all the 3 formats of the game. The conundrum for Ravichandran Ashwin may be fitness as he has been playing professional cricket since more than 12 years.
Enjoy and keep harassing the batsmen for at-least couple of years more- Ravi Shastri’s message to Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravi Shastri was present during the felicitation of Ravichandran Ashwin at Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) for Ashwin’s milestone of playing 100 Test matches and picking up 500 Test scalps. Ravi Shastri wants Ravichandran Ashwin to play for another couple of more years which only time will tell.
“Achievements of gigantic proportions. It’s no joke. Wish you the best. I believe you still have a lot of cricket left. Spinners mature with each passing age. Feel very proud. Well done, enjoy and keep harassing the batsmen for at least a couple of years more,” said Ravi Shastri.
Steep road ahead for India
India haven’t been able to find the like for like replacement for Ashwin which may be a problem for the team in the near future. It won’t be a surprise if we witness Ashwin in the commentary box as his sensical analysis are quite top notch. If Ashwin gets picked for T20 WC 2024, then he can make the opposition dance on his tone as the pitches in Caribbean are quite slow & sticky.
We are going to witness multiple ICC tournaments in the next 7-8 years and now Washington Sundar has to be given a long rope and most importantly, the NCA needs to monitor his fitness as the spin bowling all-rounder gets injured very quickly which can give headaches to the coaching staff during an important match.
