Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) skipper Shreyas Iyer would be aiming to start afresh in the IPL 2024 edition. Shreyas Iyer would be seen working closely with the mentor Gautam Gambhir who knows how to win crucial moments of the match. Gautam Gambhir early was a part of Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) camp in 2022 & 2023 edition.
KKR fans would be hoping that the side sort sort out their death overs conundrum as the side concedes way too many runs at the back end of the innings. KKR would be considering Andre Russell to roll his arm for a couple of overs at the back end of the innings as he is someone who can fox the batters with his lethal speed and cunning variations.
Gautam Gambhir brings a lot of inputs- Shreyas Iyer
KKR’s skipper Shreyas Iyer was having an interaction with the reporters ahead of their clash against the invincible Sunrisers Hyderabad. Gautam Gambhir pointed out that the mentor Gautam Gambhir knows the venue quite well and he along with the head coach Chandrakant Pandit give him a lot of inputs. Shreyas Iyer stated that Gautam Gambhir is a fearless guy and at the same time, he also gives him the freedom as a skipper.
“Gautam Gambhir brings a lot of inputs. Strategically strong, having won two IPLs. Knows a lot about the venue and the opposition teams. Chandu sir (Chandrakant Pandit) and Gautam sir give a lot of inputs. When I talk to them in practice, I get a lot of inputs,” said Shreyas Iyer.
“I have worked with him previously in a different franchise (Delhi) and I know what his mindset is. He is a fearless guy and he gives you a lot of freedom as a captain and also as a player. So, I am basically honored to be playing under him and it gives a lot of pleasure for other players as well in the team to go and express themselves with freedom,” he added.
Steep challenge awaits KKR
KKR’s arsenal most likely will be the spin trio of Varun Chakaravarthy, Suyash Sharma & the shrewd spinner Sunil Narine. These spinners have the knack of wrapping up their overs pretty quickly which puts extra pressure on the opposition team’s batters. Shreyas Iyer would be considering opening the bowling attack with Varun Chakaravarthy whose variations are quite hard to pick.
KKR’s management will have to carefully manage the workload of Andre Russell who is quite injury prone and at the same time, he is also not that consistent with the bat in hand. There is no doubt that KKR have got a brilliant squad but their problem is that they don’t win crunch moments of the match and don’t capitalize on the momentum due to which all of their hard work goes into vain.
