Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star AB De Villiers was ecstatic after they sparked a remarkable comeback to seal a spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs. AB De Villiers urged RCB to go for the title. The former RCB star Ab De Villiers has been in this situation many times during his playing days and has now urged RCB to go one step further to win the illustrious Trophy after 16 years.

Ab De Villiers retired from the IPL after the 2021 season and is the sixth leading run-scorer with 5,162 runs in 184 games. The 39-year-old scored his runs at a sensational average of 39.70 and a strike rate of almost 152 and was part of the RCB side that made final runs in 2011 and 2016.

Faf du Plessis and his men won their sixth match in a row as they overcame defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a thrilling contest on Saturday at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. RCB were at the bottom of the table, winning only one game out of seven at one stage, but have now sneaked into the playoffs.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Chennai Super Kings in a do-or-die game at M Chinnaswamy Stadium to enter the playoffs of IPL 2024. RCB posted a total of 218 for 5 after getting an invitation to bat first but they needed to stop CSK below 201 to enter the playoffs. The Faf du Plessis-led side fought hard to make things happen.

With the win, RCB joined KKR, RR and SRH in the playoffs while CSK were eliminated, which meant the end of the campaign for MS Dhoni for this season. Earlier, Faf du Plessis scored 54 off 39 while Virat Kohli played a crucial knock of 47 off 29. Rajat Patidar (41 off 23) and Cameron Green (38 not out off 17) also helped RCB’s cause. In reply, CSK were restricted to 191 for 7 in 20 overs.

“Never count #RCB out. What a turnaround! What a performance! Let’s go get that title now,”

De Villiers featured in two IPL finals for the Royal Challengers in 2011 and 2016, but the franchise ended up on the losing side on both occasions. The Royal Challengers will face either the SunRisers Hyderabad or Rajasthan Royals in the playoffs.

RCB captain Faf du Plessis spearheaded their win after CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad put them into bat. Openers Virat Kohli and Du Plessis gave their side a brisk start by stitching a 78-run opening stand. Kohli was the first to fall, perishing for 47, while the skipper departed for 54 in an unfortunate manner.

Rajat Patidar, Cameron Green, Dinesh Karthik and Glenn Maxwell then played cameos to lift the hosts to 218. On the field, Du Plessis took two crucial catches, including a blinder to get rid of Mitchell Santner. Yash Dayal delivered a stellar final over, defending 17 the Super Kings required to make it to the playoffs. Despite the best efforts of MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja, the Yellow Army were unsuccessful in their pursuit.

RCB would now be celebrating their entry in the Playoffs but would be aware of their final goal …An IPL Trophy after 16 years for the fans more than the players themselves including Ab De Villiers to enjoy more.
