Former Pakistan legend Wasim Akram has shared his light on impact player rule which has made the Indian Premier League (IPL) a downgraded league with 250+ totals, and 280+ totals consecutively it feels very boring when we watch as spectators. The impact player rule has made every player and team’s expectations so high that a 250 score is now considered a new 150.

Wasim Akram also mentions that adding an extra batter requirement won’t mean that the impact player as a batter will score runs or a bowler will pick wickets for the team. This kind of rule is just to hype up and to show it’s modern-day t20 cricket.

Wasim Akram dislikes the Impact Player rule in IPL

Former Pakistan speedster Wasim Akram dislikes the impact player rule which was started last year. Flat pitches, mammoth totals, and extra batters this three things that have made IPL an outdated league earlier which used to get nail-biting thrillers and commendable matches have lost somewhere and this modern-day t20 cricket has ruined the shortest format. He says:

“I don’t like the Impact Player rule at all. I liked what they did in the Big Bash League that they had four overs of powerplay upfront and then the batting team could take the remaining two overs anytime between 11-20 overs. They called it Power Surge. This impact rule has finished the purpose of all-rounders,”

“It (Impact Player rule) has certainly led to big totals being scored consistently. You want to see more close games. Yes, 270 playing 270 is also a close game, but it should be a one-off. It need not be that 250 is becoming a frequent occurrence. Two-three years ago no one would have thought this would happen,”

He also mentioned that the BIG BASH LEAGUE (BBL) which gives the privilege to their teams to take two additional powerplays in the next innings loved him and fascinated him and this this kind of rule should be brought into the IPL.

He also added:

“I feel pitches should be such that even a 170 score could produce an interesting game. The new ball should help the bowlers and then the batters once set can reap the rewards. The cricket boards around the world need to think about this.”

ICC MEN’S T20 WORLD CUP is just a month away and this rule will not be implicated their international matches will not accept such kind of rules in the future so it will be worth watching nail-biting matches be witnessed. The impact player rule is a rule that will ruin t20 cricket in the future and maybe it will face backlashes too.
