In advance of the T20 World Cup, which will be held in the USA and the West Indies in June of this year, former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina shared his thoughts on India’s choice of bringing back top players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in their T20I lineup.

Suresh Raina thinks the BCCI made a wise move, emphasizing how important it may be for the Men in Blue to have the experience of both of these guys considering the conditions there. He believes that the vast expertise and caliber that Rohit and Kohli bring to the table will only help India.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s return to the T20I side

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were included in the squad, with Rohit being named as captain for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan starting on January 11 at Mohali. Rohit and Virat both played their last T20I match in 2022 against England in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup.

The duo of Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma will not only need to guide the rest of the batting line up but at the same time play long & effective innings for the team.

India need experience of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in T20 World Cup 2024- Suresh Raina

As reported by PTI, this is what Suresh Raina said about the inclusion of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the T20I squad. He said that India will need the experience of Rohit and Virat heading into the T20 World Cup 2024, as the wickets might be tricky in the USA and the West Indies.

“If you look at the World Cup venues in the USA and the West Indies, the wickets will be a bit tricky. India will need the experience of Rohit and Kohli there. Kohli is about to make 12000 runs in T20 cricket. So, their presence will boost India’s batting,” Raina stated.

Virat Kohli’s experience will bring in some solidity in the team – Suresh Raina

In T20I , Suresh Raina believes Virat Kohli should bat at No. 3 and Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal should begin the batting for India. Even though there were other brilliant young players in the vicinity, he believed that Rohit and Kohli’s skill ought to be considered.

“I think Kohli should bat at No. 3. His experience will bring in some solidity, especially in the challenging pitches in the US and the Caribbean. There are fearless, young cricketers like Jaiswal, Rinku Singh or Shubman Gill but Rohit and Kohli will give the unit a lot of solidity. Their presence is very important when we chase a target especially in a high-pressure event like the World Cup,” Raina explained.

India, captained by Rohit Sharma, will play three T20Is against Afghanistan starting on January 11. For personal reasons, Virat Kohli will be unable to play in the opening T20I in Mohali.
