The Indian women’s cricket team lost to Australia in the 2nd ODI by three runs in a tense nail-biter at the Wankhede on Dec 30th, 2023. Head coach of the Indian women’s cricket team, Amol Muzumdar, expressed his disappointment at the loss.  India seemed to be on its way to victory but fell short by three runs while chasing a total of 258. The match’s highlight was the scintillating knock by Richa Ghosh, who made 96 in 117 balls.

One of the key factors that led to the loss of the Indian women’s cricket team was the poor fielding display against a quality batting line-up of Australia. Indian fielders failed to capitalize on the good bowling performance by dropping six catches that made it too easy for the Australians to put up a decent score.

Indian Women’s Cricket team’s terrible outing in the field

The fielding standards displayed by the Indian women’s cricket team showed a lack of focus and commitment, which was rare and unprecedented.  The fielders seemed totally out of their depth during the entire match. When playing against the most dominating side in the history of women’s cricket, standards on the field must be high. The Aussie women are ruthless in their approach to a game and would make you punish for missed opportunities.

They did so in the match and were deserving winners for a fine all-around display of cricket.

“There’s no doubt that our fielding was below par,” India Women head coach Amol Muzumdar says after the loss in IND-W vs AUS-W 2nd ODI.
