Rohit Sharma-led Team India will look to continue their impressive run in the Caribbean when they face off against the West Indies in a three-match ODI series starting Thursday. Rohit Sharma and his men would want to peak their game against an understaffed West Indies, which would serve as a confidence booster going into the ICC 50-over Cricket World in October.

Unless there is any massive turnaround, Rohit is expected to lead the Indian contingent at the quadrennial event. Former Indian batsman Akash Chopra came out to stamp Rohit Sharma’s place as an opener in the World Cup. Akash Chopra opined that the Mumbaikar’s place in the Indian side is beyond any debate, and even went on to elaborate on the legacy he has had on the game.

Take his name and the debate is over. The player’s name is Rohit Sharma – Akash Chopra

The Former Indian batsman was speaking on his Youtube channel and emphasized the value Rohit Sharma brings to the team with his match-winning abilities. He feels that Rohit Sharma’s career has not been celebrated enough, despite his scoring almost 10,000 runs in ODIs.

“He is an absolute white-ball legend but he hasn’t been the center of discussion or attraction. What was the reason for that? I am not going to go there at all but the truth is that Rohit Sharma is a runaway match-winner.” said Akash Chopra.

Despite having a slow start to his ODI career, where he was in and out of the team for nearly 4 years, Rohit Sharma has scored over 9000 runs with an excellent average of 48.63 including 3 double-hundreds and 30 centuries.

Rohit Sharma set the 2019 World Cup on fire with a batting masterclass scoring 649 runs that included a record 5 centuries in a single World Cup. Despite India stumbling in the Semifinals, Rohit was the top scorer of the tournament.

So Rohit Sharma is the captain and opener, so he is definitely there – Akash Chopra

The former cricketer put his money on Shubman Gill to be the opening partner to the Indian Skipper. Gill has had a memorable year until now, after scoring truckloads of runs in white-ball cricket.

“Along with him, the other player is Shubman Gill. There isn’t much scope for a debate there as well although we can do it just for the sake of it. So Shubman Gill is also a certainty. You will see both of them open.” he added.
