Rohit Sharma’s overseas Test record

His batting average is a shade over 30 in 29 Tests. It is fair to say he has not yet played to his potential in Test matches abroad. Why is Virat Kohli a better choice as captain?

There is a simple answer to this question: The ‘Will To Win’.  He stood out for his aggressive and attacking cricket style that transformed the Indian team. India remained the No. 1 Test team for 42 months under his reign.  The players played with a no-nonsense attitude and never allowed a team to dominate them.

Virat Kohli stood up for himself and the team whenever the opposition tried to sledge or play mind games. India gave it back, and they packed a punch when they hit back. No opposition dared to try; the ones who did get it back. The message was loud and clear: do not mess with us.

The players’ and team’s performances reflected Virat Kohli’s unparalleled desire to win.

His stature as a talismanic captain is difficult to emulate.

“Why is Rohit Sharma there?” Former India batter S. Badrinath questions Rohit Sharma’s test credentials and wants Virat Kohli back as captain.
