The upcoming India vs South Africa T20I & ODI series is expected to be a spectacle. Shubman Gill will have to lead the batting line up in the absence of star studded batters Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma who are on a sabbatical. Shubman Gill was rested for the recently concluded Australian T20I series.
There is uncertainty regarding the future of Rohit & Virat and in all these chaos, there is a golden opportunity for Shubman Gill to stamp his authority in the much awaited South African T20I Series. We should not forget that the Proteas’ series would serve as a stepping stone for T20 WC 2024 with hardly any T20Is left before the marquee T20 WC 2024.
All eyes will be on skipper Suryakumar Yadav who did a wonderful job while leading the side as his tactics were spot on. Suryakumar stood tall behind his bowlers and now will have to bat a bit more responsibly after a topsy-turvy T20I Series against the mighty Aussies.
Shubman Gill will rule cricket in the coming years- Brian Lara
Brian Lara was having an interaction with Anandabazar Patrika and heaped praise on Shubman Gill and termed him as the most talented batter in this generation. Brian Lara stated that Shubman Gill can break his all records and said that if Shubman can play County cricket then he can break the record of 501 & of 400 in Test arena.
“Shubman Gill can break both my records. Gill is the most talented batter in this new generation. He will rule cricket in the coming years. I believe he will go on to break many big records. He (Gill) can do it (break my records),” said Brian Lara.
“If Gill plays County cricket then he can break my 501*. In Test cricket, he can surely go past 400. Cricket has changed a lot, especially batting. Batters play t20 leagues across the globe. IPL has changed everything. The scoring rate has gone up. So you will keep seeing big scores. Shubman will score big, mark my words,” he stated.
“Gill didn’t score a century (in the World Cup) but look a the knocks he has already played. He has centuries in all formats, has smashed a double hundred in ODIs and has also played many match-winnings in the IPL. I’m sure he will many ICC tournaments in the future,” he added.
