KL Rahul has been missing from the T20I setup since T20 WC 2022. The batter didn’t had a memorable IPL 2023 and his injury didn’t help either. KL Rahul has been clearly ignored by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel and with rising batters like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan & Yashasvi Jaiswal making a case for themselves, it seems quite unlikely that KL Rahul would find a place for T20 WC 2024

Selectors have realized that they have got more exciting options than KL Rahul in T20 cricket- Sanjay Manjrekar
Sanjay Manjrekar was having an interaction with Star Sports. Sanjay Manjrekar stated that KL Rahul doesn’t have encouraging numbers behind him in the T20I arena. Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out that the captaincy brings out the best from Suryakumar Yadav, the batter and said that the side would perform well against South Africa under Suryakumar Yadav.
“Basically what’s happened is KL Rahul’s performances in the major T20 matches, the T20 World Cup for example, they have realised that they have got more exciting options than KL Rahul in T20 cricket,” said Sanjay Manjrekar.
“However, I thought he was superb in the 50-over World Cup, so he is back there, and in Test matches, obviously an option as a keeper as well. So, I think at the moment, slightly out of favour with the selectors when it comes to T20 cricket,” he stated.
“He will manage because it seems like Suryakumar Yadav finds himself in a comfort zone when it comes to T20 cricket as a player and a captain, and we saw recently how he played as a captain and a player,” he added.
“So I don’t think Suryakumar Yadav will have any problems and with the sort of pitches that are there in South Africa, Suryakumar Yadav the batter will make the biggest contribution for Suryakumar Yadav the captain,” he concluded.
