Indian Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has not been able to stamp his authority in the Indian Team with the opportunities he is getting to perform in the T2oI team. The Youngster was drafted into the Indian side following a stellar IPL and Domestic campaigns. Yashasvi Jaiswal impressed everyone with his fearless approach at the top and played some statement innings. His knock of 124 at the Wankhede against Mumbai Indians is truly one for the books.

Early Career

Yashasvi Jaiswal came to light when he grabbed the Headlines with his batting performances at the U19 World Cup 2020. The opening batter finished as the leading run-scorer of the tournament and also picked up a few important wickets with his part-time leg-spin. Although India lost in the final against Bangladesh his performances got him the Player of the series award. His performances at the Junior level impressed everyone and Rajasthan Royals picked him up for the IPL 2020.

He couldn’t make a mark in his debut IPL season finishing with 40 runs in 3 games. But his performances in domestic cricket got him more opportunities in the following season where the opening batter started 10 games for RR and scored 250 runs. These performances were decent enough to be in the squad but just couldn’t seal his spot in the playing 11. Soon followed another decent domestic campaign and the RR management backed him in the upcoming season but he still couldn’t find his feet at the IPL level finishing with 258 runs in 10 games.

Breakthrough season

The 2022/23 domestic season saw the best of Yashasvi Jaiswal where he played some memorable innings for his team Mumbai and scored two centuries in the Irani Trophy helping the Rest of India lift the title. His stellar show in domestic cricket has got him the backing of RR management and the batter started every game in the 2023 season. And Yashasvi didn’t disappoint this time around as he smacked 625 at an average of 48.08 and an outstanding strike rate of 163.61.

Callup for Team India

The Indian team Callup arrived soon as the Left-handed batter was roped in for the test squad to face West Indies and the batter grabbed his opportunity scoring a brilliant 171 in his first innings and finishing the series with 266 runs in 3 innings. And soon followed his T20I debut. Since then the batter has played 14 games for India in the Blues scoring 370 runs at an impeccable strike rate of 161.57 which includes a century against Nepal in the Asian Games 2023.

Recent Performances

Yashasvi Jaiswal faced a true test when the batter played against Australia recently where he managed scores of 21, 53, 6, 37, and 21 these stats look decent but the way he has got in these innings has been questionable at times. He was not watching the ball at times and was looking to smack them over the park with power. This is the approach he followed throughout his domestic and IPL career but is this the right way going forward playing for the country?

Could he play with some responsibility? Will the Indian Team back him and his approach? we have to wait and see. Although mistaking his approach after a few bad performances is not good, one would like him to see scoring big runs and the South African will be a good opportunity for him to make some amendments and perform well for the country. He started the South African series with a duck and will be looking to change things around in the third game.
