IND vs SA: ‘I Had to Appeal a Lot”- Arshdeep Singh Reveals His Strategy In 3rd ODI Against South Africa

In the post match presentation after the 3rd and the find ODI of the 3 match series between India and South Africa, Arshdeep Singh revealed his strategy against South Africa. He said the plan was pretty simple, to bowl wicket to wicket and try to get the batsman caught LBW in front of the stumps, and if the batsman doesn’t block it in between, the ball will go straight into the stumps.

In the third and the decider ODI, Arshdeep Singh picked up four wickets to earn a historic victory against South Africa. His sensational figures of 4/30 helped Team India to win by 78 runs against the Proteas. Due to his brilliant performance throughout the series, picking up 10 wickets in just 3 matches, he was adjourned with the Man of the Series Award.

Arshdeep had started the ODI series against South Africa on a sublime note picking up his maiden five-wicket haul. With this, he became the first Indian pacer to scalp five wickets against South Africa on their home soil. His brilliant bowling display helped Team India in winning the opening ODI by eight wickets. In the 2nd ODI as well Arshdeep got the first wicket, but the Proteas were going strong and won the match quite easily. In the decider when it mattered the most, Arshdeep Singh emerged as India’s rescuer. Avesh Khan and Washington Sundar also supported Arshdeep nicely by claiming two wickets each.

In the post match presentation after the 3rd ODI against South Africa, Arshdeep Singh reveals his strategy. He stated that on some day when there isn’t anything happening on the wicket, you need some support from the umpires, that’s why you need to appeal a lot which creates pressure on the umpire and can get a decision in your favor,

“The plan was simple, it was to bowl wicket-to-wicket and get lbws and bowled. Sometimes when there isn’t anything happening on the wicket, you need some support from the umpires, that’s why I had to appeal a lot,” said Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep also gave credit to the Indian Premier League (IPL) for offering the young players a much-needed platform.

“The IPL has been a very good platform for us youngsters, there isn’t a big gap between IPL and international cricket. You understand the mindset of international cricketers and it helps. We are all loving the chances we’ve got. We’d love to give our all in the future as well and do well,” he said.
