India survived an early scare from Nepal to defeat them convincingly by 10 wickets in the Asia Cup 2023. After deciding to field first after winning the toss, Indian fielders gave a number of chances to the Nepal batsman with Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli, and Ishan Kishan dropping a catch each.

Despite the sloppiness, the bowlers managed to bowl Nepal out of 230. The prolonged rain interruption forced a revised target of 145 in 23 overs which was chased down by the openers without suffering any losses. Rohit Sharma & Shubman Gill paced the innings smartly as the duo got their eye in and then unleashed an attack on the opposition.

The first five overs witnessed absolute sloppiness in the field from India as Shreyas Iyer dropped Nepal’s Kushal Bhurtel in the very first over off Shami’s bowling, this was followed by Virat Kohli who dropped Aasif Sheikh, followed by Ishan Kishan who also put down a sitter. Indian batting coach Vikram Rathore addressed the sloppiness in the field – both in the field and catching and said that the team could’ve been more disciplined.

Nepal batted well…Glad nothing major happened (because of the dropped catches). It was good to see how we responded to it (the target) – Vikram Rathore

Vikram Rathore was speaking to the media in the post-match press conference and felt that the performance of cricketers in the field was quite disappointing and not upto the mark against Nepal. Vikram Rathour pointed out that such standards won’t keep the team in good stead.

“The wicket today was good, better than the last one during Pakistan. We could have been more disciplined. The three dropped catches helped them,” said Vikram Rathour.

“They batted well…Glad nothing major happened (because of the dropped catches). It was good to see how we responded to it (the target),” he added.
