There was a lot of hype around Brendon McCullum and the ideology of ‘Bazball’ but India’s cricket team had another ideas. The Rohit Sharma led side bamboozled the mighty English cricket team. Brendon McCullum would be worried as the batters not only lacked mental application but there was no fight shown.

The likes of Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow & Ben Stokes couldn’t perform according to their credentials as the middle order unexpectedly became fragile. It won’t be wrong to say that defeating India in their back yard is quite tough as the Rohit Sharma’s brigade was quite inexperienced with Virat Kohli (*unavailable) and the duo of Cheteshwar Pujara & Ajinkya Rahane were ignored by Ajit Agarkar led selection panel.

A lot of good will come out of India tour- Brendon McCullum

Brendon McCullum was having an interaction with BBC Sport and was quite dogmatic and stated that a lot of good will come out of India tour. Brendon McCullum pointed out that he will have some tough conversations with the cricketers and made it clear that they will stick to their gameplan in which they believe and have been somewhat successful.

“A lot of good will come out of this tour. I’m 100% positive about that. We will be a better cricket team for the experience, although it hurts a lot at the moment. Sometimes you can get away with things, but when you’re exposed in the way we have been in the back end of this series in particular, it does require some pretty deep thinking and some adjustment to make sure we’re staying true to what we believe in,” said Brendon McCullum

“Whilst you guys know me as a pretty relaxed person, I still have a fierce drive to ensure that we will get this team to where we want to get to. We like to operate in a really calm, enjoyable and positive environment, but we don’t mistake that for not having tough conversations when they are required,” he added.

What lies ahead for England

Ben Stokes’ inability to bowl hurt the team massively as he is considered to be the bowler with the golden arm. England cricket team fans would be dejected with the performance of the national team as this was the best chance for them to end the drought of 12 years of winning Test series in India.

England will have to play out of their skin if they want to qualify for ICC World Test Championship (WTC 2023-25) final. The Britishers currently are placed at 8th position on the points table with 21 points and a percentile of 17.50%. West Indies & Sri Lanka is going to visit England for the Test series after the conclusion of ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
