England’s cricket team asked India to bat first in a not-so-much-hyped contest after England’s poor performance in the ODI WC 2023. Jos Buttler & Rohit Sharma made no changes to their respective sides. Shreyas Iyer‘s form has been the talking point. Shreyas Iyer would be keen to prove everyone wrong by playing a match-winning knock.

Indian cricket team had a terrible start to their innings as the batting youth icon Shubman Gill was outfoxed by Chris Woakes and most importantly, the star batter Virat Kohli was sent back to the pavilion on a golden duck by David Willey. All of a sudden, the Men in Blue found themselves in a bit of a spot of bother.

Shreyas Iyer fails to make the most of opportunity

Shreyas Iyer was seen having a tough time in the middle as the surface was quite sluggish and the pacers were getting ample assistance from the surface. At the end of  10 overs, the powerplay overs; India managed to score only 35 runs as even the skipper Rohit Sharma took his foot off the pedal due to the testing conditions.

Chris Woakes was given an extended spell as the pacer was bowling his 6th over on the trot. In the 12th over, Chris Woakes once again setup an Indian batter and this time Shreyas Iyer was duped. Chris Woakes cramped Shreyas Iyer for room as the batter went for the pull shot but couldn’t time the ball properly. Shreyas Iyer had a forgettable outing as he was dismissed for 4 runs in 16 balls. India’s score at 11.5 overs was 40-3.

Wake up call for India

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma would be extremely disappointed by the dismissal of Shreyas Iyer as the duo were slowly building a partnership on a difficult track. Now, Rohit Sharma will have to make sure that he not only bats deep but toils the opposition bowlers as of now it looks like the English cricket team is in the mood of spoiling the party of India.

India’s somewhat dependable batter KL Rahul will have to play out of his skin as he along with Rohit Sharma will have to wait for loose deliveries and accelerate at the back end of the innings, may be in the last 15-20 overs as the surface has started to deteriorate. India would be aiming for a score around 270 which would be quite competitive.
