Najmul Shanto The Bangladesh skipper feels they just did not play their best game against India. The men in blue beat the green army with seven wickets. Initially, Bangladesh troubled India with their batting, but the team could not carry forward the momentum in the rest of the contest.
India chased down the target of 256 in 42 overs to win the ICC World Cup 2023 for the fourth time in a row. With this win, the men in blue are almost looking cemented into the top four of the tournament.
Bangla openers made full of the batting deck of Pune while batting first. Although they got off to a slow but steady start, Later, both openers got rhythm, so they started taking on Indian bowlers and stood for 93 runs for the first wicket. Tanzid Hasan raised his bat for half a century before getting lbw. Later, Liton Das also completed his half century, which was his first in the ICC World Cup 2023.
Bangladesh was heading toward a gigantic total but took sudden wickets after skipper Najmul Shanto washed that heading. Decent innings from Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah helped him get 256.
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill partner 88 runs while chasing Rohit was first to go, but Shubman Gill completed his half century and was caught by Mahmudullah. Virat Kohli came to the creases with positive intent and notched a hundred in style and struck six to end the match. Shreyas Iyer was the only one who scored low runs; Kl Rahul remained not out on the other end with his small inning.
In the post-match presentation, Bangladesh skipper Najmul Shanto blamed the team’s game plan:
“India is always a very good side, very capable, and they displayed it today. All the teams are good, but we did not play our best game today. Hopefully, we will play better in the upcoming games. Shakib is going well and should be fit for the next game,” said Najmul Shanto.
“Tanzid batted nicely, as did our bowlers. The problem is that we did not finish well with the bat. Our batting group needs to take more responsibility,” he added.
