One of India’s main batters in the ODIs lately, man-in-form Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the squad for the upcoming 3-match One Day International(ODI) series against Australia starting March 17 in Mumbai.

The middle-order batter who has been in fine touch in the 50-over-game has been troubled with the reoccurrence of his lower-back injury.  The issue started when he first missed the ODI series against New Zealand. He was also absent from the 1st Test against Australia. And in the recent account, he could not come out to bat for India in the 4th Test in the second innings.

“Injuries are a part and parcel of the game. We have the best medical facilities and they are well-equipped… We are in coordination (with NCA). Shreyas is ruled out of this series. (We will be able to provide) further, update as and when we know.” said T Dilip.

Meteoric rise in ODIs

Having made his debut way back in 2017, Iyer has accumulated 1631 runs in 42 ODIs. Having played the role of an anchor in the middle-order, the 28-year-old was India’s highest run-getter in the past year, on the back of his six fifties and one century, he was named in the ODI team of the year in 2022.

But the reoccurring injury has proved to be a nightmare for the Mumbai batter who will now be out until April this year also missing a big part of the IPL in the meantime.

The first ODI will also miss the services of Rohit Sharma as the captain where the flamboyant all-rounder Hardik Pandya will lead the side.
