BCCI announced India’s squad for the series against Australia, which is going to start on September 22. Two different teams were picked for the clash, and BCCI made some insane decisions; they rested star players. The selection that is getting hype is the selection of spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. In the last couple of years, it can be seen that Ravichandran Ashwin has worked on his batting and he also can be used as a floater.

After a successful run in the Asia Cup 2023, India will now be facing the mighty Aussies, and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin got a surprise call for the series after a long gap of one year. He has been selected in the ODI format for a long time now, but the Indian skipper feels he can cover things with his priceless experience.

Ravichandran Ashwin has been consistently playing red ball cricket- Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma was seen attending the press conference ahead of India vs Australia ODI Series. Rohit Sharma stated that Ashwin’s experience would be priceless and said that Ashwin has played nearly 100 Test matches. Rohit Sharma said that the management had a word with the star spinner and were delighted to have him in the team.

“With the kind of experience he gained, he played nearly 100 Test matches for the team, or close to 150 ODI games. Yes, it was all in the past, but he has been consistently playing red-ball cricket. With a guy like Ashwin, game time is not a matter of concern, which is why we thought about him; if he is an option for us, we need to get him in.” said Rohit Sharma.

“We made that decision after speaking to him, knowing where he was with his body. It is not like he has not played cricket for the last year. He has just not played the ODI format. He has played red-ball cricket recently in the West Indies and in some TNPL games. There’s no comparison there, but there’s some cricket there,” he added.

Ravichandran Ashwin an Asset

The intelligent off-spinner has earned his call for the team after 2022; last time he featured in the ODI team against South Africa; before that, he was a regular member of the team until the 2017 Champions Trophy. After the debacle of 2017 CT, Ashwin wasn’t a regular member of the team.

Ashwin has also played an important role in the format for the team in the past, and he has the experience to perform much better than in the past. So far in his career, he has represented India in 113 matches and picked up more than 150 wickets.
