ICC World Test Championship Final: “He Is A Senior Player, He Has Played A Lot..” Shardul Thakur Lauds Ajinkya Rahane For His Heroic Innings

Ajinkya Rahane proved his potency and might once again, as India surpassed the predetermined score, to avoid the appalling follow-on. Shardul Thakur praised Ajinkya Rahane on his heroic innings in the game, as the latter smacked 89 runs to rescue India from an abysmal batting performance.

Shardul Thakur heaped praise on Ajinkya Rahane for his substantial knock and referred to him as a top player in world cricket. Rahane and Thakur build a dynamic partnership of 109 runs on the 7th wicket to turn around India’s disappointing performance on day 3. Their phenomenal innings facilitated India to rack up a score of 296.

Shardul Thakur said after the match, that Rahane was constantly talking to him, during their partnership as they were the last recognized batting pair. He stated:

“He is a senior player, he has played a lot and he told me that even if I make a mistake, you come and talk to me and tell me on spot. Because we are a last recognized batting pair. So, the more we stay on the pitch the more team will benefit and we will be able to run as much as possible,” said Shardul.

“I think Ajinkya is known as the top player in world cricket. And he has played overseas for India, where he has scored a centuries and has built a lot of partnerships. In England, Australia and in the last South African series he batted very well,” Shardul added.

Rahane Made A Fashionable Comeback

Ajinkya Rahane was ousted from Indian Team due to his poor performance in South African tour in 2022. However, he remained undaunted by the failure and wage a fightback by smashing 634 runs in 7 matches for Mumbai in the 2022/23 Ranji Trophy season, at an average of 62.61.

Thakur applauded his partner on his perseverance and the comeback he made after his unsatisfactory performance in South African tour. He mentioned:

“Last time also, when he was going through a lean patch, it didn’t seem like he would get out. He was always batting well. And this time, the domestic matches that he has played, the runs that he has made in Ranji Trophy, we saw him batting with that confidence,” said Shardul Thakur.
