Sunil Gavaskar blasted Rohit Sharma and Co after they were bundled out for 119 during the T20 World Cup 2024 match against Pakistan. Legendary Indian cricket team batter Sunil Gavaskar blasted Rohit Sharma and Co after they were bundled out for 119 during the T20 World Cup 2024 match against Pakistan on Sunday.

It was a disappointing show from the Indian batters as they lost their last 7 wickets for just 30 runs. Pakistan kept taking wickets at regular intervals and except for Rishabh Pant, no Indian batter was able to score more than 20. During the mid-innings show on Star Sports, Gavaskar called the Indian batters “arrogant and reckless” for throwing away their wickets and not adapting properly to the match conditions.

Jasprit Bumrah the star as India won a low scoring thriller against Pakistan

Sunil Gavaskar was miffed with Rohit Sharma during the IND vs PAK match in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Although India defeated Pakistan by 6 runs while defending 119, Gavaskar pointed out Rohit’s blunder that could have resulted in his team’s loss. Sharma started the bowling with Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Legendary batter slammed Rohit during Pakistan’s chase.

“Why he didn’t start with Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah is the best fast bowler in the world, but he was not given a new ball. You have to remember that a new ball does a lot, and when it becomes two overs old, the impact goes down. “He was given a ball in the third over and almost brought a wicket. Shivam Dube dropped a catch of Mohammad Rizwan.

“He got rid of Babar Azam in his second over. Bumrah dismissed Rizwan in his third over. He is a wicker-taker, and you can’t keep him waiting,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

For the record, Bumrah took three wickets and was named the Player of the Match. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has blasted Rohit Sharma and team for reckless batting in the much crucial match vs Pakistan

Sunil Gavaskar reprimands Indian batters after their poor show vs PAK in 2024 T20 World Cup

Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar fired shots at Indian batters after their dismal performance in the high-octane T20 World Cup game against Pakistan in New York on Sunday, June 9. The Men in Blue were bundled out for 119 runs in 19 overs.

India came into this game after a comprehensive win over Ireland. Rohit Sharma and Co. were asked to bat first by the Men in Green. The Pakistani bowlers made full use of the overcast conditions. Barring Rishabh Pant (42 off 31), none of the Indian batters got going and showed maturity.

Sunil Gavaskar was irked by the fact that Indian batters gave away their wickets while trying to play reckless shots. Speaking on air during the mid-innings break, the former Indian skipper said:

“The performance was disappointing. I think they were arrogant and reckless. There was an arrogance in the way they started as they were looking to hit every ball. This is not an Ireland attack. This is not an ordinary attack and I do not mean any disrespect to Ireland when I say this. But this is a very experienced attack and there should have been just that little bit of respect given when the ball is moving quite a bit.”

India were bundled out within 19 overs after a miscommunication between Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh.  Sunil Gavaskar reckoned that another six runs in the 20th over could have made a huge difference.

“And then, getting out with one over left tells you that you are probably not in the right kind of thinking. Another 6 runs would have taken them to a 125 and that could have made a difference,” he added.

Only three out of 11 batters managed to cross the single-digit mark. Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf starred with the ball for Pakistan, picking up three wickets apiece. India’s bowler especially Jasprit Bumrah won hearts and the match and India has almost put the foot in the Super 8s.
