During the press conference on Thursday, India captain Rohit Sharma expressed his desire for the 15-member squad to include four spinners. Unfortunately, Rinku Singh is not currently included in the main team; instead, Rinku Singh is playing as a reserve alongside Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed. These will undoubtedly be the cause of Rinku exclusion from the starting 15 squad, as Rohit Sharma refuted his claim to reveal his card during the press conference.

Picking Rinku Singh for the main squad could be a wise move because of his demonstrated ability to be an attacking batsman and finisher down the order, smashing bowlers from the first ball. Rinku has played exceptionally well for the Indian team and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) over the past few years.

While many cricketers backed Rinku  to feature in the squad, India named the Kolkata Knight Riders star as a travelling reserve. Rinku Singh barely made the reserve list after amassing 356 runs for India in 15 T20Is with an average of 89 and a strike rate of 176.24. If we include the Indian Premier League, Rinku Singh has participated in 41 games and scored 857 runs, with very few innings coming at the end with a strike rate of 142.

I think Rinku Singh should not be disheartened by T20 WC 2024 snub- Sourav Ganguly

During a reporter’s question to former batter & ex BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, he made his statement in favor of Rinku Singh, saying that because of an extra spinner in the count, Rinku Singh can’t be at the major 15-member squad Saurav Ganguly feels that there is still an opportunity for him, and he concluded by saying Rinku Singh’s career is just getting started, so he should not lose hope that many opportunities will come his way.

“I think Rinku missed out because they wanted to go with another spinner. But Rinku is in standby, so fingers crossed. It is just the beginning of Rinku’s career. He will play a lot for India. I think he should not be disheartened with this,” said Sourav Ganguly.
