A major change is going to appear in the world of cricket as the Rahul Dravid‘s time as India’s head coach is coming to an end after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2024. 27th May (Monday) was the final date for the submission of official applications, but the BCCI have yet to finalize their announcement.
The first name to pop up for the post of India’s head coach was Gautam Gambhir, who was the mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and led this franchise to win their third IPL 2024 title. Gambhir’s ex-teammate and legendary spinner Harbhajan Singh has mentioned another potential candidate for the post.
Harbhajan Singh wants Indian coach to perform better than the previous one
During an interaction with PTI, Harbhajan Singh mentioned that the most important thing a head coach can do is to bring everyone in the team together and have them synced to each other to bring out their full potential in the game. Harbhajan then went on to mention Indian pacer and current Gujarat Titans (GT) head coach Ashish Nehra as another potential candidate apart from Gambhir for the role as India’s head coach.
“If I say it properly, it is a speculation, which is doing rounds…the biggest thing a coach can do is to bring everyone together, so that the team can play together. So, whether Gautam becomes coach or Ashish Nehra, or whosoever gets the opportunity, hope they do better than what others before them did,” Harbhajan mentioned.
The former Indian spinner has kept himself out of the picture as he mentions that he won’t be able to give his time. It is because he would like to give his valuable time to his young family. But he said that when the time is right, he would definitely come forward to play his role as India’s head coach.
“I don’t think I will be able to give that much time. At this stage of my life I have a young family and I need to be around them and look after them. Yes, when the time is right time comes, I will put my foot forward and say I am ready for it,” he further added.
Gautam Gambhir’s Appointment Done Deal: Report
As claimed by the report of Cricbuzz, a top-level IPL franchise owner, having top contacts in the BCCI has confirmed that the deal with Gautam Gambhir for the post of India’s head coach is a ‘done deal’. One of the top commentator who has considerable sources in the BCCI have announced the publications that efforts are being made to get him (Gambhir) the role.
According to multiple sources, it has been confirmed that Gambhir has formally applied for the role and also mentioned people who are close to him that he is seriously considering the offer to act as the head coach for the Indian squad. Even Shah Rukh Khan, the co-owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) knows about this.
