Sri Lanka will look to bounce back after a disastrous loss against South Africa in the opening game. On the other side, Bangladesh arrived in the USA a couple of days back to play t2oi series against the host USA which ended with a loss against them 2-1 Bangladesh would like to bounce back as well they will be playing their first game of the tournament.

Journey till now: Sri Lanka and Bangladesh

Sri Lanka recently played a series against Bangladesh in their home and won the series by 2-1 which gave them a bit of confidence to get prepared for the World Cup. Later they played a warm-up match against the Netherlands and lost the match. Sri Lanka had a nightmare against South Africa as they could register just 77 runs onboard and so a shameful loss has impacted their mind and would like to forget that match and move forward. Skipper Wannindu Hasaranga should know the strength of the team since they dominated Bangladesh many times so they should aware of the situation pretty much.

Bangladesh is currently facing a leaning patch and is not able to score runs and players are also out of form they should stay calm and focus on the areas where it should be improved and strategies need to be planned properly so Najimul Hossain Shanto and Co need to focus on their weaknesses so that they won’t commit such mistakes in matches. Bangladesh won the series against Zimbabwe at home but since then they kept losing the matches so their morale is down, senior players like Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, etc are averaging quite below so they also need to strengthen their weaknesses. Bangladesh lost to the USA in the 3-match t20i series by 2-1 and also they faced a loss against India in the warm-up match.

Stats:

  • Kusal Mendis had favorable match-ups against Mahedi Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, and Rishad Hossain during the T20I series between these two sides in March. Against these four bowlers, Mendis had a collective strike rate of 172.72 with two dismissals.
  • Sri Lanka won both their T20 World Cup fixtures against Bangladesh, in 2007 and 2021.
  • Bangladesh are the first team to lose 100 T20Is. Sri Lanka are close by on 99 defeats in the format.
  • Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam are regarded as Bangladesh’s lead fast bowlers but the team has lost 17 out of 22 T20Is that the pair has played together.
