Ever since T20 WC 2022, the star duo of Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma have not featured in any of the T20Is. Hardik Pandya has been leading the side and has done quite a decent job. Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli recently made themselves unavailable for South Africa’s white ball leg.
Rohit Sharma had a wonderful ODI WC 2023 and the batter was looking in sublime touch and it would be quite harsh if Rohit is shown the exit door for T20 WC 2024. Rohit Sharma is someone like Virat Kohli, the players who are made for big matches as their experience is quite priceless.
I personally would like to see Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma- Irfan Pathan
Irfan Pathan was having an interaction with Star Sports. Irfan Pathan stated that the pitches at Caribbean aren’t that batting friendly as the batters will have to work quite a bit hard to dictate the terms. Irfan Pathan pointed out that the selection panel and management shouldn’t make any significant changes to the combination after a near perfect ODI WC 2023.
“I personally would like to see Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma. The reason for that is where we are playing the World Cup. The World Cup is in the West Indies, and those pitches have changed. Obviously, it’s an ICC event, the pitches will be better. That’s what we hope as far as the batting conditions are concerned,” said Irfan Pathan.
“However, if you look at the CPL (Caribbean Premier League) and local cricket there as well, the batters need to work really hard. This is where the experience comes in. We played really well in the 50-over World Cup, except for one game, so you don’t want to change too many things,” he stated.

Irfan Pathan pointed out that Rohit Sharma has changed his approach and taken up responsibility and changed the mindset. Irfan Pathan stated that the duo Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma’s experience can be priceless in crunch situations of the match.
“A lot of people are talking about the need for a fresh approach in T20 cricket, but I think guys like Rohit Sharma, the way he is going at the moment, he has been the real leader of Indian cricket,” said Irfan Pathan.
“The way he has changed the approach, taken the responsibility on his shoulders and taken the team forward, he has actually changed the mindset. That is why I really hope that Rohit Sharma continues as the leader, and at the same time, you can always use guys like Virat Kohli and his experience,” he added.
