India has arrived for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and has kickstarted the practice sessions they have played one warm-up match against Bangladesh and secured an easy win against them. India has picked 4 spinners in their squad which still raises the question of how selectors have approved such a team and taken a risk yet it looks very strong and balanced.

Sunil Gavaskar wants India to go with 3 spinners

Legendary Sunil Gavaskar expressed that India should go with 3 spinners as they have 4 spinners in the squad so they should take undue advantage of it. Countries like the USA where cricket will be played for the first time on a large scale so need to see how conditions will play and how the pitch will test the batter’s performances. India won the warm-up match and some boxes must have been ticked by them like bowlers, middle-order players, etc. The main question that arises is who will open with Rohit Sharma, Sanju Samson opened with Rohit which somehow failed and didn’t work so can we see Virat Kohli open with Rohit Sharma. 2 spinners were used in the warm-up match Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel where the two spinners and bowled well but one additional spinner would be great enough to add in the playing XI. Sunil Gavaskar says:

“A balanced bowling attack is the most important in West Indies, so India can go with three spinners and two fast bowlers, with Hardik Pandya as the backup fast bowler. I think this will maintain the balance of the team,” Gavaskar said in an interview with Dainik Jagran.

Sunil Gavaskar feels this team is a mixed team with youth and experienced

Sunil Gavaskar further also speaks that this squad looks mixed which is half youth and half experienced. This combination will surely help the Indian team to perform well and will be one of the contenders to lift the World Cup. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah are the experienced players, and youth players like Arshdeep Singh, Shivam Dube, and Rishabh Pant are the youth and future stars who will be the next superstars of the Indian Team. Sunil Gavaskar says:

“I believe that this is a team that has a good mix of experience and youth. Along with Rohit, Virat, Surya, and Bumrah, there are young players like Yashasvi, Rishabh, and Shivam, who strengthen the team,” Gavaskar added in the same interview.

India will kickstart their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland in New York on June 5. They are drawn with Pakistan, Canada, and USA in Group A, and will play all of their group stage matches in the United States.
