ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Pakistan ends their campaign with a win against Ireland. Pakistan had a disastrous campaign for which they faced many backlashes and trolls all over the world. Babar Azam and Co played very badly which turned out to be a disaster for the whole team. None of the players performed well and the contribution was zero.

The most shameful defeat of the tournament was against the USA which went up to super over and lost the match. Next, the marquee clash against India also went down till the end but India snatched the victory from the jaws of defeat. These two losses made Pakistan exit from the tournament.

Virender Sehwag speaks on keeping India and Pakistan in one group

A pathetic World Cup for Pakistan and will surely need to forget, that whatever mistakes they committed need to be rectified and start fresh as it is an alarming bell for them because such performances even affect your rankings, and may get knocked out of the top 20 also. Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag speaks about whether to keep India and Pakistan in one group from the next World Cup as Virender Sehwag speculates that after a shameful loss against the USA India feels that Pakistan won’t be the part of same group next World Cup. Virender Sehwag says:

“How can the rain be blamed?” Sehwag said Pakistan not qualifying for the Super Eight stage. “They played poor cricket. They didn’t deserve to qualify for the Super Eights. Even if they would have somehow managed to qualify, they would have lost there. It wasn’t like they were going to face easy opponents (in the second round).”

“ICC will have to rethink about making such groups. In 2007 (ODI World Cup) neither India nor Pakistan qualified for the next round. ICC may rethink if they wish to keep India and Pakistan in the same group (to ensure they aren’t eliminated early),” Sehwag said.

“The USA has qualified and it’s possible that matches featuring USA may not evoke the same interest as they would have had Pakistan qualified instead. However, USA were the better team and they are capable of producing more upsets,” he added.

“You first have to choose a captain and build a team accordingly. You need to give him time. It takes time to get results. Babar has been their captain for the longest time and others haven’t gotten the chance to lead Pakistan for much. They have to identify players from PSL for different positions. Choose a captain, give chances to younger players for some time, and then they will start performing,” he said.

Even the USA played well and qualified for Super 8 in their first attempt though they didn’t play any qualifier match being co-hosts they were directly qualified for the group stage they outshined well and looked very strong side as if they were playing over the years. The next T20 World Cup is in 2026 and it will be in India sharing with Sri Lanka.
