ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will commence from June 2 in the USA and West Indies. The Indian team will be playing one warm-up match against Bangladesh on June 1. The billion people will be hoping that Men in Blue gets accustomed to the conditions quickly after a grueling 2 months of IPL 2024.
The Indian team last time lost in the semi-final against England and failed to secure their spot in the finals. But this time youngsters will show their form and will lift the T20 World Cup 2024. It won’t be wrong to say that there was lack of clarity as earlier Hardik Pandya was given the reins after T20 WC 2022 but later Rohit Sharma came back at the helm.
Robin Uthappa wants senior players to move on
Former Indian batter Robin Uthappa wants senior players to move on and give place to youngsters in the team. After a tragic loss in World Cup 2023 Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma didn’t play any T20I matches Rohit was last seen in the Afghanistan series where he led the team but Virat played just one T20I later he didn’t play any T20i match. However, they are included in the squad and youngsters like Rinku Singh and Shubman Gill have been excluded from the squad. Robin Uthappa feels that senior players should give a chance to youngsters and stay away from it. He said:
“I’m gonna catch a lot of flak for this, but I’ll take it. I think they should’ve moved on after the previous World Cup itself. I think the youngsters should’ve played in this World Cup. The senior players have had their go, and these guys are showing true potential. The fact that they’ve been performing in IPL consistently… a lot of these guys who are performing now, the likes of Shubman Gill should be there,” said Robin Uthappa.
India has not won the title since 2008 after winning the initial campaign under MS Dhoni in 2007 defeating arch-rivals Pakistan Robin Uthappa too was the part of that team . Indian Team has a chance to lift the trophy and youngsters who are selected should showcase their form and finish the final hurdle.
