David Warner, the destructive left handed batter would be keen to end his career on a high note as the T20 WC 2024 is just door steps away. David Warner is one of the few members of Australian side who is a part of elite group who has won all the 3 ICC tournaments and the Aussies have looked quite invincible under the leadership of Pat Cummins.

David Warner surprisingly is not the skipper for Delhi Capitals (DC) as the management & coaching staff have named the swashbuckling left handed batter Rishabh Pant as the captain. Warner, though will be a part of the leadership group as he has good camaraderie with DC’s head coach Ricky Ponting.

DC had a forgettable IPL 2023 edition where their batters looked in all sorts of trouble. According to sources with knowledge, it is strongly believed that the spin bowling all-rounder Axar Patel will be promoted up the order as he is someone who is fearless at the same time he can also provide stability to the team if there is a collapse.

I think David Warner needs to have a good IPL- Simon Katich

Simon Katich was seen interacting with ESPNCricinfo. Simon Katich pointed out that we haven’t seen the best of David Warner over the past couple of years in IPL. Simon Katich stated that David Warner’s place in the national cricket team is not guaranteed as the side already has the services of Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh who are performing exceedingly well.

“His last couple of years in the IPL, I think it was like two years ago, with the Sunrisers where he got dropped, and that obviously had an impact and then he moved to Delhi. He probably has not been at his run-scoring best there compared to when he was at the peak of his power,” said Simon Katich.

“I think with Travis Head emerging and Mitchell Marsh at the top of the order, and I think Josh Inglis emerged on that recent tour of India last year where he got that hundred. Matthew Wade has done a good job in the finishing role, and we also know that Tim David is in there, Maxwell is in career-best form,” he stated.

“So, there is going to be a little squeeze in there. So, I think Warner needs to have a good IPL. I still think he will go to that World Cup, but I would not say that he is a shoo-in at this point of time. I think it is going to come down to form. I know he has done well recently against the West Indies, but the conditions in the T20 World Cup will be completely different,” he added.
