Rohit Sharma‘s reign of captaincy from Mumbai Indians’ has come to an end in the 2024 IPL season as the captaincy was handed over to all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Currently, Rohit Sharma is playing under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya in the ongoing IPL 2024 but the roles will be reversed in the T20 World Cup. However, for Rohit Sharma, it is business as usual and it is not something that he has not experienced previously.

Not everything will go your way- Rohit Sharma

While participating in the international level, Rohit Sharma has played under different captains in the past namely: MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Virender Sehwag. In the IPL, he was led by Adam Gilchrist (Deccan Chargers), Harbhajan Singh, Ricky Ponting ( Both Mumbai Indians), and now Hardik Pandya.

“See, it is part of life. Not everything will go your way. It has been a great experience. Before also in my life, I have not been a captain and I have played under a lot of captains. It is no different or new to me,” Rohit told reporters on Thursday.

“Whatever is there and you go by it and then try and do what is required from you as a player. I have only tried to do that in the last month or so,” Rohit said.

There is an ongoing debate regarding Virat Kohli’s strike rate on his opening for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in this IPL season. So far, Kohli has amassed 500 runs in this season. But his 147 strike rate is somewhat questionable when compared to the likes of Travis Head (194 plus), Phil Salt (180 plus), and Sunil Narine (182 plus).

Ajit Agarkar (India’s Chief of Selector) urged that there is no need for any discussion regarding Virat Kohli’s strike rate in the course of team selection and acclaimed that the need for experience matters most, in tournaments like the T20 World Cup.

“I don’t think we’ve been discussing it. He’s been in great form, fortunately in the IPL so no concerns there at all. With regards to how it’s going in the IPL, you’re still going to a World Cup, still international cricket – there is still that gap there,” Agarkar said.
