Afghanistan outshined well in World Cup 2023 defeating big teams like England, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, etc., and was in the limelight after that. Afghanistan also started their T20 World Cup 2024 with a bang, they defeated Uganda in their opening match by 125 runs. Afghanistan will look forward to playing good cricket and keep dominating in the World Cup. They have been kept in Group C including New Zealand, Uganda, West Indies, and Papua New Guinea.

Jonathan Trott lauds Dwayne Bravo

Afghanistan Head Coach  Jonathan Trott lauds West Indies legend Dwayne Bravo for joining them as a bowling coach. Afghanistan has many star players like Rashid Khan, Mohammed Nabi, Rahmullah Gurbaaz, etc. Though they have made their name in franchise cricket playing for their country is a great moment for them. To shape their team more in bowling ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 Afghanistan took Dwayne Bravo as their bowling coach to know the conditions well and under his guidance Afghanistan may outshine more in the World Cup, having more experience in White-ball cricket and he is the leading wicket-taker in t20s. Jonathan Trott said:

“DJ (Dwayne Bravo) coming into the side, fantastic. Having quality coaches also with huge experience as players (is great), but also vast franchise experience in this format of the game,” Trott said in the post-match press conference. “(It’s) only a brilliant thing to have a player like him coming to the side as a coach and it makes your job a lot easier but it also makes the coaching more enhanced, especially with the bowlers.

Uganda skipper feels proud

Uganda is featuring for the first time in any ICC tournaments though they didn’t have a flying start as they bowled out on just 58 while chasing 183 against Afghanistan. Uganda skipper Brian Masaba says:

“Pretty special moment for us, hearing our national anthem and seeing our flag at the World Cup,” Masaba said after the match. “First game at the World Cup, (a) lot of nerves, so good to get that out of the way.

“Something I will cherish for the rest of my life. We will look to come out and play better next game. They got off to a pretty good start and then it was about fighting back. It was very important how we fought back and full credit to the boys for that,” he added.

Afghanistan will face Kiwis in their next clash and Uganda will face Papua New Guinea.
