Colin Munro, the dynamic New Zealand batsman known for his aggressive style, has declared his retirement from international cricket, effective immediately. Despite amassing more than 3000 runs in his international career, Colin Munro has been absent from the national squad for the past four years. His last appearance for the New Zealand team was in a T20I match against India in 2020.

Colin Munro’s International Career Highlights

The southpaw initiated his international career with a T20I debut in December 2012, followed by an ODI debut the subsequent month. Despite only featuring in a solitary Test match in January 2013, he primarily excelled as a white-ball specialist. Across formats, he proudly donned the New Zealand jersey on 123 occasions, accumulating a tally exceeding 3000 runs.

Munro holds the distinction of being New Zealand’s sole batsman with three T20I centuries, and notably contributed to the T20 World Cup campaigns of 2014 and 2016. He was also an integral part of the squad that reached the final of the ODI World Cup in 2019. Embracing roles in various franchise cricket leagues worldwide, the seasoned batsman disclosed that his retirement decision stemmed from his omission from the 2024 T20 World Cup roster.

“The pinnacle of my playing career has always been representing the BLACKCAPS. Donning that jersey filled me with immense pride, and having the opportunity to do so 123 times across all formats is a source of everlasting pride for me. Despite the passage of time since my last appearance, I never relinquished the hope of a potential return, buoyed by my performances in franchise T20 cricket. With the unveiling of the BLACKCAPS squad for the T20 World Cup, now feels like the ideal moment to formally bring closure to this chapter,” expressed the 37-year-old.

Pioneering 360-Degree Style Batting

NZC’s chief executive, Scott Weenink, offered glowing accolades to Colin Munro, hailing him as a trailblazer in the realm of 360-degree style batting. Expressing gratitude for Munro’s remarkable contributions across more than a hundred international matches, Weenink extended heartfelt wishes for success in Munro’s future endeavors.
